🇬🇧 "The Leonard-Cushing Fight" directed by William Dickson is a short, silent film produced by the Edison Manufacturing Company and is considered to be the first sports film ever released. The film shows a boxing match between Mike Leonard and Jack Cushing, filmed at Edison's Black Maria Studio in West Orange, New Jersey1.
Although only a 23-second fragment has survived, the film was a commercial success at the time, especially as boxing was banned in some US states. The film was sold by the round, allowing viewers to watch a boxing match on a kinetoscope.
